This Privacy Policy explains how My Places (“My Places,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the My Places application and related services available at https://places.marcusfan.dev.

My Places helps caregivers and family members assist their loved ones in getting to places they need or want to be — safely. This policy is written to help you understand our practices, including how we handle Google user data under Google’s API Services User Data Policy.

1. Who we are

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information from Google Sign-In

When you sign in with Google, My Places receives basic account identity information needed to authenticate you and operate the app:

  • Name — used to identify your account within the app.
  • Email address — used for account identification, support, and security-related communication.
  • Profile photo — Google may make a profile photo URL available as part of the standard Sign-In response. My Places does not use, display, or store your Google profile photo anywhere. We do not download it, cache it, show it in the interface, or retain it on our systems.

2.2 Google Calendar data

With your permission, My Places requests Google Calendar access limited to read and write operations needed to manage events in a single calendar you designate for My Places use. Specifically, the app may:

  • Create calendar events related to destinations and caregiving plans
  • Edit those events when plans change
  • Delete those events when they are no longer needed
  • Read event details from that same calendar so the app can display and maintain accurate schedules

My Places is not intended to access, browse, or modify your other calendars beyond the single calendar associated with My Places functionality.

2.3 Google Places data

My Places uses the Google Places SDK / Places API to help users search for and work with destination information (for example, clinics, pharmacies, stores, and other locations). Place names, addresses, and related place details returned by Google may be shown in the app and saved as needed to support caregiving features you choose to use.

2.4 Information you provide in the app

You may create or save information such as places associated with a loved one, notes related to travel or appointments, and other caregiving context you choose to enter. Only provide information you are comfortable sharing within the app.

2.5 Technical and diagnostic information

Like most apps and websites, we may process limited technical information such as device type, app version, approximate usage events, crash logs, and basic request metadata needed to keep the service secure and reliable. We do not sell this information.

3. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Authenticate you and maintain your My Places account session
  • Help caregivers and family members coordinate destinations and related plans
  • Create, update, and delete events in the single Google Calendar connected for My Places
  • Look up and display place information via Google Places
  • Provide support, respond to requests, and protect the security of the service
  • Improve reliability and fix bugs

We use Google user data only for the purposes disclosed in this Privacy Policy and only to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent in My Places.

4. How we store and protect information

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. Access to Google account data is mediated through Google’s OAuth authorization flows and tokens. We do not store Google profile photos.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you believe your account or data may have been compromised, contact us promptly at marcusfan06@gmail.com.

5. How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We do not share Google user data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or unrelated commercial purposes.

We may share information only in these limited situations:

  • Service providers that help us host, operate, or secure My Places, under obligations consistent with this policy and applicable law
  • Legal requirements when we believe disclosure is required to comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
  • Safety and integrity to protect users, prevent fraud or abuse, or address security issues
  • With your direction when you ask us to share information or take an action that necessarily involves sharing

Google independently provides Sign-In, Calendar, and Places services under Google’s own terms and privacy policies. When you connect Google services, Google’s processing of data is governed by Google.

6. Google user data — limited use

My Places’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In particular:

  • Google user data is used only to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent in the requesting application’s user interface
  • Google user data is not transferred to others unless necessary to provide or improve those features, to comply with applicable laws, or as part of a merger/acquisition/sale after prominent notice
  • Google user data is not used for serving advertisements
  • Human reading of Google user data is limited to cases such as user-requested support, security investigations, legal compliance, or when you have given affirmative consent

7. Data retention

We retain information only as long as needed to provide My Places, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Calendar events remain in your Google Calendar according to your Google account settings and any actions you take in the app. You may disconnect Google access at any time (see below), after which My Places will no longer be able to read or write calendar events through that authorization.

8. Your choices and rights

  • Revoke Google access: You can remove My Places’s access to your Google Account at any time from your Google Account permissions page: https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • Request deletion or correction: Email marcusfan06@gmail.com to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to applicable law.
  • Stop using the app: You may stop using My Places at any time. Some data may remain in backups for a limited period or where retention is required by law.

9. Children’s privacy

My Places is intended for caregivers and family members who are adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. International users

If you use My Places from outside the country where our systems or providers operate, your information may be processed in another country that may have different data-protection rules. By using My Places, you understand that information may be transferred as needed to operate the service.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, when appropriate, provide additional notice. Continued use of My Places after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
